1- FAQ - Stove-ON-Reminder

1/   My Question: I know my teens leave the stove unattended when I’m not at home and that worries me very much. Especially when cooking with oil and grease and that’s all they seem to like cooking with these days. Will Stove-ON-Reminder provide me some assurance and peace of mind in the event they get distracted from the stove ... AGAIN?

The short answer: Once they turn on Stove Alert with a simply click of the mouse they'll have an audio stove on alert announced on their computer system to remind them that the stove is on. In that respect they are protected. They need to turn up the volume and unplug the head phones so that the speakers will sound the alert..

The longer answer: The problem in many households today whether they are your teens, your spouse or your elders is that there is always something more important to do in this fast paced world than standing in front of the stove. The truth is there should be nothing more important then staying in the kitchen when your stove is on and if there is … the stove should always be turned off before leaving the kitchen. With more and more electronic gadgets and phone apps springing up almost daily, it’s difficult to stay focused on what is important …safety in the home! Educate all home occupants and introduce them to Stove Alert. Make it a habit by turning it on before you turn on the stove each and every time you use the stove. It will significantly reduce your changes of having a kitchen fire in your home.

A recent government study showed 80%
of reported fires were a result of unattended cooking. How often have you left the stove on to check your email, causing you to forget about the chicken you left sizzling on the stove - until smoke filled the house?

NOW this Stove-ON-Reminder can alert the stove user through your home computer in the event of a distraction. Many teens & adults will attend to their computer to retrieve or send email and then they get caught up in the web, and before they are aware of the danger, the smoke alarm is sounded. It is important to stay calm in this situation and not to panic.

You want to prevent that from happening. Although the smoke alarm is vitally important in the home, in many cases when the smoke alarm is sounded it's often too late ... a fire or smoke has started. Hopefully it can be controlled and extinguished in time! NEVER through water on a grease fire! Please read all the fire prevention tips on our website.

The Stove-ON-Reminder is a level 1 fire prevention tool that works differently. It can work to remind a person right on their computer with an audio alert that the stove is on so that a fire does not happen in the first place. It works to alert so that you don't need to get to that stage where you need to extinguish a fire. Any fire professional will tell you that it's better to prevent a fire than to fight a fire.

That's why Stove-ON-Reminder is so important in every home today.

Let's face it and not ignore the facts! It’s a fact that distractions will happen. Unfortunately it’s also a fact that people will leave the kitchen intentionally to complete another duty or attend to their email, smart phone, home work, yard work, laundry and the list goes on. Now at least you know that an alert reminder will be sounded in your home every 3 minutes, giving all a chance to prevent a fire.

Without Stove-ON-Reminder, you’re gambling on recall ... and that's a gamble that can cause property damage, injury and even death. Everyone is forgetful from time to time!

No one wants to burn down the house. If you introduce Stove-ON-Reminder in your household, your loved ones will not only get instant protection at the click of the mouse, you'll also get your peace of mind back. Now everyone is happy, safe and secure!  We have had people write us and thank us for preventing a catastrophic fire in their home.

A man in his 40’s was the last of his family members to step out of the house in early December 2010 when the Stove-On-Reminder alerted him to the fact that he left the grease pan on a high burner just as he was dashing out the door to get to work on time!
He writes: Had it not been for your alert, our house would have burned to the ground. Our family thanks StoveReminder!

2/  How do I activate my Stove-ON-Reminder for safety in my home?
Once you have ordered your Stove-ON-Reminder, you’ll receive an email confirmation that you have paid for activation.

Accompanied in the confirmation email is a link that will allow you to load the site to your screen.

Now we suggest you save it as a favourite bookmark or create an icon on your browser for quick and easy access each time you use the stove. Now you are ready to use your audio reminder as often as you like. There are no pay per use fees, so we encourage you to use it every time you use the stove for safety in the home.

3/   How does Stove-ON-Reminder work?

Open your saved Stove-ON-Reminder on your computer or smart phone. You must have flash installed. If not, a link for free flash installation is included in your confirmation email. Adobe flash only takes a minute or two to install. Most computers have flash already installed. Click the ON button to activate your Stove-ON-Reminder and the OFF button to deactivate. First turn on your speaker volume on high. Your stove reminder will remind you and members of your household in 3 minute intervals that the stove is on in the event you or a loved one becomes distracted from the stove … the leading cause of kitchen fires.

4/   When will it not work for me?
Obviously if you don’t click the ON button it will not sound the reminder. Also, if you don’t click OFF when you are finished using the stove it will not stop repeating the reminder. It will not work if your internet connection is down. Internet must be connected to function and your Stove-ON-Reminder web page should not be closed while in use.

5/ Are there any safety mechanisms in place if someone accidentially leaves the alert page. Will the alert shut down?
We have created a safety pop up window that will appear in the event you or another member of the family accidentially or intentionally attempts to navigate away from the alert page. It will warn you that you are about to navigate away from the page while your stove is on and if doing so it will render the alert reminder ineffective. If you are planning to navigate away from the alert page, the pop up message will also recommend that you proceed to the kitchen to turn off your stove first. Then when your stove is turned off you are safe to return to your computer and navigate away from the alert page.

The pop warning also appears when:

1/ you try to leave the site
2/ you try to leave the page

3/ you click on an advertised link
4/ you click on any information tab

5/ you try to leave the page to browse the internet

6/ you try to listen to music or view videos
7/ you try to watch online movies
8/ you try to turn off the audio Stove-ON-Reminder.
